The special provision for Sign Panel Type 3 indicates that the sign panels shall be supported full height top to bottom. Please provide a detail for supporting NEW signs top to bottom on Ground Mounted signs on structural steel sign support breakaway posts when the new sign is taller than the existing.
Support channels shall consist steel support channels according to Section 720 of the 2016 Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction. A support channel shall be placed within 1 foot of each end of the panel, and at not more than 3 ft spacing through the panel. Support channels shall extend a minimum of 3 ft into the main portion of the sign panel, and within 6 in of the free end of the extended portion of the sign panel. (08/24/2021)
