  • Locations 0510 & 0511 per the footnote on plan sheet 4 are identified to have existing HMA shoulders. The plans (20-22) for these 2 locations clearly identify proposed earth shoulder. Site 0511 especially has a significant amount of proposed embankment. How are the footnotes on plan sheet 4 applicable to this project, if at all?
    Proposed typical section #1 represents a majority of the site condition for these locations. The aggregate shoulder is to be considered an HMA shoulder and is designated correctly by the asterisk footnote. The proposed embankment is required to construct the shoulder, as shown on typical section #1, from the edge of the HMA shoulder to the break point and down on a properly prepared slope.   • Guardrail with Radius is identified in the plans as A6 and SR. Please confirm that guardrail with radius identified with A6 will be paid as X6330725 Steel Plate Beam Guardrail (Short Radius). Please Identify all locations where the detail on plans sheet 44 applies, if at all. Is it allowable to use steel posts in lieu of the wood posts identified in the detail on plan sheet 44?
    Radius Guardrail identified as A6 shall be paid for as Steel Plate Beam Guardrail, Type A, 6 Foot Posts as shown in the Plans and in the Schedule of Quantities. Steel posts are to be used. Radius Guardrail identified as Steel Plate Beam Guardrail (Short Radius) shall be paid for as Steel Plate Beam Guardrail (Short Radius) as shown in the Plans (Sheet 44) and in the Schedule of Quantities. Locations for Short Radius rail are called out in the Schedule of Quantities and labeled as SR on the location sheets. Using steel posts instead of wood posts at Steel Plate Beam Guardrail (Short Radius) locations will not be allowed per design. Wood posts must be used. (01/07/2021)

  • Could As-Builts of SN 001-3300 be made available?
    Existing plans will be posted in the 'Additional Information' with the plans and special provisions for this contract. (12/29/2020)

  • Page 6 of the Proposals states that partial removal of existing posts is included in the pay item for Steel Railing Removal. The Steel Railing Removal detail on sheet 23 of the plans have no mention of partial post removal. Is it intended for a portion of the existing post tops to be cut off?
    There is no intention for removal of the top of the rail posts. (12/14/2020)

  • Note 1 on sheet 23 of the plans states that rock "may be encountered" during guardrail placement and costs to drill, or excavate rock is incidental to the various guardrail items. Because there is no way of knowing if rock is present, or the depth of rock, if present, could paragraph 5 of article 630.07 of the Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge apply? Construction apply? (
    This note is to inform the Contractor that rock is present at this location and that difficulties may occur in the driving of the new posts. To the best of our knowledge, the embankment is constructed of rockfill shot from the cut immediately to the east and dirt. There is no information available as to the difficulties or any changes involved with driving the existing rail posts. Should sound rock or boulders be present at a new post location which completely prevents the installation of a post to its required depth or position, Article 109.04 would be considered.
